How keyword matching works

Whole words, capitals, accents, emoji — and exact matches for DMs.

Keywords decide which comments, story replies and DMs an automation responds to.

  • Matching ignores capital letters and accents: “LINK”, “link” and “Link!” all match LINK.
  • Keywords match whole words or phrases: LINK doesn’t match “linkedin”.
  • Emoji work as keywords.
  • An automation can have up to 20 keywords; any one of them matching is enough.
  • For comment and story-reply automations, an empty keyword list matches everything.

DM keywords: contains or exact

DM keyword automations can match when the message contains a keyword, or only when the whole message is exactly the keyword. Exact matching is useful for short codes like BOOK that might otherwise appear inside ordinary sentences.
