Auto-DM People Who Comment on Your Instagram Live

A Live is the one moment when a lot of people type at once and nobody can keep up. Comments scroll past in seconds, and the person who asked the useful question is gone before you finish the sentence you were in the middle of.

What the trigger does

MuChat can watch the comments on your Instagram Live and answer them with a private DM. You choose a keyword to match on, or leave it empty so every comment gets a reply.

The reply goes to the person's DMs rather than under the comment. That is Instagram's rule rather than a design choice: apps cannot post public replies under Live comments. In practice the DM is the better outcome anyway, because it opens a thread you can carry on after the Live ends, when you have time to answer properly.

Three ways to use it

• Send the thing you are talking about: the price list, the booking link, the guide.
• Capture interest while it is warm, by asking one question in the DM the Live could not ask.
• Answer every comment with a short thank-you and one next step, when volume makes a personal reply impossible.

Setting it up before you go live

1. 01Build the flow that will run: what the DM says, and what happens if they reply.
2. 02Choose the keyword, or leave it empty to answer every comment.
3. 03Test it in MuChat's Simulator, which has a Live tab for exactly this, so you are not debugging in front of an audience.
4. 04Say the keyword out loud during the Live, more than once. People join late.

Keep the first DM short. Someone reading it is still watching you talk, so a message that needs scrolling gets left for later, and later rarely arrives.

After the Live

The DMs a Live produces are the most valuable thing it leaves behind, and they arrive all at once. Plan for the hour afterwards: who is answering, what the follow-up says, and which questions need a person rather than the flow. A Live that generates two hundred conversations nobody answers is worse than one that generates twenty that get replies.
