Looking for a ManyChat Alternative? Read This

What to check before you move your Instagram automation to another tool, and an honest account of what MuChat does, what it does not, and what it costs.

Most people looking for an alternative are not shopping for features. Something specific has gone wrong: the bill grew faster than the account did, a second Instagram account meant a second subscription, or a flow that worked last quarter now needs a workaround. It helps to name that reason before comparing anything, because it decides which differences actually matter to you.

We are not going to characterise what other tools charge or include. Those change, and a comparison table written by a competitor is worth what you paid for it. What follows is what MuChat does, stated plainly enough that you can check it against whatever you are using now.

What to check before you move

  1. 01How the plan counts contacts, and what happens when you pass the limit.
  2. 02Whether more than one Instagram account fits on one plan, or costs another subscription.
  3. 03How many people on your team can log in without paying per seat.
  4. 04What happens to your contacts and flows if you leave.
  5. 05Which channels genuinely work today, rather than appearing on a roadmap.

The first and last of those cause most of the regret. A contact limit decides your bill, and a roadmap decides whether the thing you are buying for exists yet.

What MuChat does

MuChat automates Instagram DMs: comment-to-DM triggers, keyword replies, story reply automation, flows with branches and buttons, sequences, broadcasts and a shared inbox. The flow builder is the centre of it, and everything else is a trigger into a flow or a step inside one: /product/flow-builder.

Beyond Instagram, Telegram and SMS work today. Telegram connects with a bot token from BotFather and runs the same automations, buttons, sequences and broadcasts, with no 24-hour window. SMS sends from your own Twilio number, with buttons converted into reply options and STOP and START handled by Twilio.

Messenger and WhatsApp are built and waiting on Meta's approval, so treat them as coming rather than available. TikTok is not available to anyone as a messaging integration: its messaging API is partner-only. If a tool promises you TikTok DM automation today, ask exactly how it works before you rely on it.

Things worth knowing that are not feature-list items

  • Conversions are sent to Meta through the Conversions API as Instagram business messaging events, so click-to-message ads get credit for sales that happen in a conversation.
  • Built-in steps write to HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Shopify and Google Sheets directly, using a key from your own account, so routine cases do not need a middleman service.
  • The dashboard installs as an app with push notifications for new conversations and hand-offs. On iPhone you add it to the Home Screen first.

What it costs

  • Free: 1 Instagram account, 125 active contacts, 3 live automations, MuChat branding on messages.
  • Essential, 17 dollars a month or 168 a year: 1 account, 350 contacts, 10 live automations, 2 seats.
  • Pro, 29 dollars a month or 288 a year: up to 3 Instagram accounts, 2,600 contacts, unlimited live automations, 5 seats.

Where MuChat will not suit you

If your business runs on WhatsApp today, wait until approval lands rather than moving on a promise. If you need more than three Instagram accounts on a single workspace, Pro will not stretch to it. And if your team is larger than five seats, the plans as they stand will not cover everyone.

Saying that plainly is more useful than a table with ticks in every row. The tool that fits is the one whose limits you can live with, and every tool has them.

What does not change when you switch

Instagram's rules travel with you. Automation requires a professional account, Business or Creator. The 24-hour messaging window applies to every tool equally, and no software can send a promotional DM to someone who has not messaged you. If a tool implies otherwise, that is a compliance risk attached to your account rather than a feature: /help/messaging-rules.

Moving without breaking what works

  1. 01Rebuild your single highest-traffic automation first. Leave the old one running.
  2. 02Send a share of traffic to it for a week and compare replies and completions.
  3. 03Export or note the contacts you actually rely on before you cancel anything.
  4. 04Move the rest once the first one holds up, then switch the old tool off.

Try it on one automation, not on faith

The free plan exists for this. One Instagram account, 125 active contacts and three live automations is enough to rebuild your busiest flow and watch it run against real traffic for a week. That is a better test than any comparison article, including this one, because it uses your audience, your wording and your products.

A fortnight of running both is cheaper than a bad week with neither. Ready-made flows to start from are in /templates, and /pricing has the current plans.
