The keyword is the smallest part of a comment automation and the one people put the least thought into. It shouldn’t be. It has to be easy to type with a thumb, obvious from the video, and unlikely to show up by accident in a normal comment.
Keywords by goal
- Sharing a link: LINK, SHOP, WANT, DROP
- Giving away a resource: GUIDE, FREE, PDF, TEMPLATE, RECIPE
- Answering buying questions: PRICE, SIZE, INFO, DETAILS
- Discounts: CODE, DEAL, SALE
- Waitlists and launches: WAITLIST, EARLY, NOTIFY
- Bookings: BOOK, CALL, SPOT
What makes a keyword work
- 01One word. Every extra word is a chance to misspell it.
- 02Say it in the first seconds of the video and put it in the caption. People comment what they’re told to comment.
- 03Make it specific to the offer. RECIPE on a cooking reel is self-explanatory; YES is not.
- 04Avoid words people use anyway. “love”, “wow” or “nice” will trigger DMs nobody asked for.
- 05Add a couple of variations. If you ask for GUIDE, also accept GUIDES.
Don’t forget the reply
A keyword gets the comment; the first DM decides whether anyone taps. Keep it human and short (“Here you go! Tap below and I’ll send it over 👇”) and let the button do the work. Then compare click-through rates between posts: when one keyword or opener consistently beats the others, make it your default.
